I conceived of the Precious Cargo Project as a celebration of the use of native NZ timbers and plant materials in contemporary NZ craft. I've sought out some of NZ's best craft artists using native timber and plants in their work to each produce a tool specific to their craft. These tools are unique, beautiful objects and reflect the skill and creativity of each artist.
Exploring stories around the associated native trees or plants that each artist uses, I develped a special cabinet to house each of the 6 artists tools. The cabinets are designed to be experienced visually but also through touch, smell and sound. The Precious Cargo exhibition is currently being pitched to various galleries.
Precious Cargo will be traveling to various galleries and museums throughout New Zealand. Initially ehibited at Wellington's City Gallery (see exhibition images here), the show was very well received recently when it opened in Auckland's Objectspace (see exhibition images here). The exhibition is currently showing at Puki Ariki Museum in New Plymouth - (see exhibition images
