The Oily Gates

Taranaki Culture: fresh out of the box was an exhibition at Puke Ariki Museum in New Plymouth, New Zealand. Fifteen diverse Taranaki artists each selected a treasure from Puke Ariki's heritage collection and responded to it with a new artwork that reflected the culture of Taranaki.

My work, The Oily Gates, explored issues of isolation in relation to community and geography.

Dimensions: height: 1800mm, width: 3000mm, depth: 600mm
Materials: Recycled power-pole cross bars, number 8 wire, stainless steel stand
Installation location: Puke Ariki Museum, New Plymouth. 28 February–1 June 2009
